How to learn English



1. Learn the basic reading and listening abilities of English.
2. Spend at least one hour everyday listening to news or discussion programs such as NPR (National Public Radio) news or BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation; the World Service or Radio Four are best) news. It's hard to understand what they are saying when you first begin to listen to them, but gradually you'll get used to the speed and tone. Then you can get a brief idea of what they are talking about, although you can't get the detail. You don't need to listen to the radio for an whole hour at once. It's best to spend twenty or thirty minutes on listening separately.
3.  Spend more than three hours every day on reading English news or articles. Reading builds up your vocabulary, idioms, phrases, and the concepts of English structures. If you do enough reading, it will save you a lot of time since you will not need to spend more time on building your vocabulary or grammar. Read out loud when you do your reading so that you can improve your pronunciation at the same time.
4. Learn the phonetic alphabet (pronunciation symbols). This can help you pronounce correctly, and it's necessary to speak with the correct tone if you want to make some friends with native English speakers. This is a big deal for non-native English speakers.
5. Make some pen pals and write them at least once everyday. The best way to improve your writing is to practice writing as much as you can. The more you write the more you know how to use what you've learned from reading and listening.
6. Make friends with native-English speakers. This is the most difficult task because of the difference in culture, but you can't really master English unless you can communicate with a native English speaker fluently. You have to know enough things and have good listening skills if you want to have good conversations with an American or Briton. Remember to ask a lot of questions to keep the conversation going. When someone asks you a question, give more than just the basic information. For example, if someone asks you "Do you like living here?" don't just answer "Yes" or "No," but tell them why, too.
7. Watch some English TV. TV is the best and most inexpensive teacher to learn real English. Not only you can learn formal English from news or debate TV programs, but you can also learn everyday English from soap operas and sitcoms. Be careful because too much jargon or too many idioms make your speech ambiguous.
8. Try listening to the Radio. Radio is also one of the best and inexpensive English teachers. Because there is no picture, you cannot lip read. You must train your ear to listen.
9. Use an English-English dictionary and bring your dictionary wherever you go. If you find some words that you don't know, look them up in your dictionary immediately.
10. Use 'Espoir Smart English' programs. You get absorbed in the learning English. You will learn English automatically. This program is specially designed for the adolescent mind to learn English for their success in career, social, love & personal lives & influence people.
11. Use your newly-learned idioms or vocabulary. Once you use the words which you memorized, you will never forget them again.
12. Think in English. Getting used to using English all the time will make it easier to listen and react with it.
13. Join web groups or clubs where you can post questions freely and discuss the use of grammar.

เอาชนะข้อสอบความจำให้อยู่หมัด.... แค่ขีดแล้วเขียน


       เทศกาลสอบกำลังจะเริ่มต้นขึ้นอีกครั้ง ก็เท่ากับได้เวลาที่ต้องพยายามหาเคล็ดลับการสอบมาฝากน้องๆ กันเหมือนเช่นเคย วันนี้พี่มิ้นท์มีเคล็ดลับการเตรียมตัวสอบ ที่ข้อสอบมักจะเน้นความจำ


              ข้อสอบเน้นความจำ หมายความว่า คำถามส่วนใหญ่ต้องการคำตอบที่เฉพาะเจาะจง ไม่ต้องผ่านการวิเคราะห์ หรือ วิเคราะห์เพียงนิดหน่อย เช่น คำถามประเภท ถาม พ.ศ., ถามชื่อคน, ชื่อเมือง, ถามสาเหตุ ฯลฯ คำตอบที่ออกมาจะได้เหมือนกันทุกคน ซึ่งคุณครูระดับมัธยมส่วนใหญ่จะออกรูปแบบนี้ ในวิชา ประเภท สังคมฯ ประวัติศาสตร์ และเราก็จะท่องกันหัวปั่น เรียกว่าท่องกันบรรทัดต่อบรรทัดเลยทีเดียว

             เคล็ดลับที่พี่มิ้นท์จะมาแนะนำกันวันนี้ คือ การลบเนื้อหาที่สำคัญออกจากต้นฉบับ เพื่อลับสมองประลองความจำ วิธีการมีดังนี้

           1. สมมติว่าวันนี้เราอ่านเรื่องประวัติศาสตร์ไทยก่อนสมัยสุโขทัย รอบแรกที่อ่านให้จับใจความสำคัญ แล้วทำเครื่องหมายในส่วนที่เราเก็งข้อสอบไว้ว่าคุณครูต้องออกแน่ๆ เลย




               2.เอาชีทหรือเอกสารที่กำลังอ่านอยู่ไปถ่ายเอกสาร หรือคัดลอกด้วยลายมือตัวเองมาก็ได้(ถ้าลอกด้วยลายมือตัวเองได้ยิ่งดีใหญ่ เพราะทวนความจำไปในตัว) แต่ในช่วงเวลาน้อยๆ เอาไปถ่ายเอกสารจะสะดวกกว่า

              3.ลบเนื้อหา หรือ ใจความที่เราเก็งข้อสอบออกไป ให้กลายเป็นช่องว่างให้เราเติมคำ หรือขีดเส้นใต้เอาไว้ด้วยก็ได้ แบบในรูปข้างล่าง

         ง่ายๆ แค่นี้ น้องๆ ก็จะมีคัมภีร์เก็งข้อสอบเป็นของตัวเอง ซึ่งวัดความจำของน้องๆ ได้ล้านเปอร์เซ็นต์ วิธีนี้ได้ผลดีกว่าการท่องจำมาก เพราะการจะเติมคำในช่องว่างได้ เราจะต้องดึงความจำในสมองออกมาในขั้นที่ 1 ส่วนในขั้นที่ 2 เรายังต้องประมวลผลและกลั่นออกมาเป็นคำตอบและเขียนลงไปในช่องว่าง (การเขียนเพิ่มประสิทธิภาพในความจำขึ้นอีก) ถ้าเราตอบถูกก็แสดงว่าความจำเราใช้การได้ดี แต่ถ้าผิดก็ยิ่งกลายเป็นผลดีขึ้นไปอีก เพราะน้องๆ จะจำข้อบกพร่องของตัวเองได้ว่า ตอบแบบนี้มันผิด ผลที่ตามมาก็คือ พอเราแก้เป็นคำตอบที่ถูกแล้ว เราก็จะจำแต่สิ่งที่ถูกต้องนั่นเอง

         แค่ 3 ขั้นตอนที่ว่ามา เนื้อหา 4-5 หน้า ก็จำได้หมดค่ะ ส่วนการท่องจำด้วยปากเปล่า ถ้าวันไหนสติหลุด ก็มีลุ้นลืมหมดสมองเหมือนกัน
         เด็ดกว่านั้นก็คือ ถ้าน้องๆ เซียน เก็งข้อสอบได้แม่นตรงกับความคิดคุณครูด้วยล่ะก็ วิชานั้นหวานหมูเลย คะแนนเต็ม 100 แน่ๆ
         วิธีนี้ ถือว่าเป็นวิธีที่ง่ายมาก ถ่ายเอกสารเดี๋ยวนี้ก็หน้าละ .50 บาท เรียกว่าเราได้คะแนนเต็มด้วยต้นทุนแค่ไม่กี่บาทนี่คุ้มมากๆ แต่ถ้าถ่ายเอกสารทั้งเล่ม 300 กว่าหน้าก็ไม่ไหวนะคะ หาวิธีอื่นดีกว่า... เอาเป็นว่าลองนำเทคนิคนี้ไปใช้กันดู ถ้าเป็นไปได้ก็ลองใช้ประยุกต์กับวิชาอื่นๆ ด้วยก็จะดีมากๆ เลย^^

Why is it called a hamburger although it contains no ham?



During a trip to Asia in the early 1800s, a German merchant – it is said – noticed that the nomadic Tartars softened their meat by keeping it under their saddles. The motion of the horse pounded the meat to bits. The Tartars would then scrape it together and season it for eating. The idea of pounded beef found its way back to the merchant’s home town of Hamburg where cooks broiled the meat and referred to it as it as Hamburg meat.
German immigrants introduced the recipe to the US. The term “hamburger” is believed to have appeared in 1834 on the menu from Delmonico’s restaurant in New York but there is no surviving recipe for the meal. The first mention in print of “Hamburg steak” was made in 1884 in the Boston Evening Journal.

          The honor of producing the first proper hamburger goes to Charlie Nagreen of Seymour, Wisconsin, USA. In 1885 Nagreen introduced the American hamburger at the Outgamie County Fair in Seymour. (Seymour is recognized as the hamburger capital of the world.)
However, there is another claim to that throne. There is an account of Frank and Charles Menches who, also in 1885, went to the Hamburg, New York county fair to prepare their famous pork sausage sandwiches. But since the local meat market was out of pork sausage, they used ground beef instead. Alas, another hamburger.
The first account of serving ground meat patties on buns – taking on the look of the hamburger as we know it today – took place in 1904 at the St. Louis World Fair. But it was many years later, in 1921, that an enterprising cook from Wichita, Kansas, Walt Anderson, introduced the concept of the hamburger restaurant. He convinced financier Billy Ingram to invest $700 to create The White Castle hamburger chain. It was an instant success. The rest of the history, we might say, belongs to McDonald’s.
And, no, a hamburger does not have any ham in it. Well, it’s not supposed to. Hamburger meat usually is made of 70-80% beef and fat and spices.
Why is a hotdog called a hotdog?
In 1987, Frankfurt, Germany celebrated the 500th birthday of the frankfurter, the hot dog sausage. Although, the people of Vienna (Wien), Austria will point out that their wiener sausages are proof of origin for the hot dog. (By the way, ham, being pork meat, is found in hotdogs.) In “Every wonder why?” Douglas B. Smith explains that the hotdog was given its name by a cartoonist.

         A butcher from Frankfurt who owned a dachshund named the long frankfurter sausage a “dachshund sausage,” the dachshund being a slim dog with a long body. (“Dachshund” is German for “badger dog.” They were originally bred for hunting badgers.) German immigrants introduced the dachshund sausage (and Hamburg meat) to the United States. In 1871, German butcher Charles Feltman opened the first “hotdog” stand in Coney Island, selling 3,684 dachshund sausages, most wrapped in a milk bread roll, during his first year in business.
In the meantime, frankfurters – and wieners – were sold as hot food by sausage sellers. In 1901, New York Times cartoonist T.A. Dargan noticed that one sausage seller used bread buns to handle the hot sausages after he burnt his fingers and decided to illustrate the incident. He wasn’t sure of the spelling of dachshund and simply called it “hot dog.”
Eating
Recipes for placing meat between slices of bread date back to Roman times. However, that was for steak, not minced meat. Thus, the steak burger is older than the hamburger!
Sausage is one of the oldest forms of processed food, having been mentioned in Homer’s Odyssey in the 9th century BC.
The tongue is a muscle with glands, sensory cells, and fatty tissue that helps to moisten food with saliva. You cannot taste food unless it is mixed with saliva. For instance, if salt is placed on a dry tongue, the taste buds will not be able to identify it. As soon as saliva is added, the salt dissolves and the taste sensation takes place.
There are 4 basic tastes plus umami. The salt and sweet taste buds are at the tip of the tongue, bitter at the base, sour along the sides, and umami along the center of the tongue.

แปลกแต่จริง!! เรียนสายวิทย์ ตกวิทย์ เรียนสายศิลป์ ตกเลข


รียกว่าเป็นปัญหาโลกแตกที่ไม่มีใครตอบคำถามได้ ว่าทำไม? เด็กไทยถึงได้สอบตกวิชาหลักๆ ในสายนั้น เช่น น้อง ก. เรียนสายวิทย์-คณิต แต่ตกวิชาฟิสิกส์ เคมี ชีวะ รวมไปถึงตกเลขเป็นประจำ ส่วนน้อง ข. เรียนสายศิลป์-คำนวณ ก็ตกวิชาเลขกับอังกฤษ ทุกเทอม ส่วน น้อง ค. เรียนศิลป์-ภาษา ก็ผ่านภาษาที่เรียนมาแบบฉิวเฉียดเบียดคะแนนต่ำสุดกันเลยทีเดียว

            ในสายตาผู้ใหญ่ เรื่องเหล่านี้เป็นเรื่องใหญ่เสมอ เพราะกลัวว่าลูกตัวเองจะเรียนไม่จบ เป็นเรื่องเลวร้ายที่สร้างชื่อ"เสีย"ให้กับวงศ์ตระกูล ส่วนในสายตาอย่างเราๆ กลับมองว่ามันเป็นเรื่องปกติ ไม่เห็นจะแปลกตรงไหน ใครๆ ก็ตกทั้งนั้น (เอาเข้าไป!!)

            อาการสอบตกบ่อยๆ ไม่เคยเจ็บแบบนี้ ทำให้น้องๆ หลายคนเริ่มพิจารณาตัวเอง ว่า
 เอ๊ะ! เราคงโง่เกินเรียนในสายนี้จริงๆ ล่ะมั้ง ถึงได้ตกซ้ำซาก แต่น้องๆ คงลืมนึกต่อว่า แล้วเราจะมั่นใจได้ยังไงว่าเรียนอีกสายแล้วจะไม่สอบตกในวิชาอื่น... ซึ่งในเรื่องนี้ พี่มิ้นท์ได้ลองหาสาเหตุแล้วค่ะ ว่าทำไมเราถึงตกในวิชาที่ไม่สมควรจะตก

           ก่อนอื่น พี่มิ้นท์อยากให้น้องๆ เลิกคิดว่าตัวเองยิ่งเรียนยิ่งโง่ไปซะก่อน เพราะการศึกษาไม่มีทางทำให้คนโง่ลงหรอกค่ะ ไม่อย่างนั้นจะเรียนกันทำไม จริงมั้ย??  แต่ปัญหามันอยู่ที่ว่า พอเรียนสูงขึ้น เนื้อหามันก็ยากขึ้นและลึกขึ้นตามลำดับ จุดนี้แหละที่เป็นจุดเปลี่ยน เพราะถ้าพื้นฐานยังไม่เข้าใจ ก็อย่าหวังว่าของที่มันยากขึ้นจะเข้าใจ เช่น อาจารย์ให้ท่องตารางธาตุ ยังไม่ทันจะจำได้ว่าธาตุไหนอยู่ช่องไหน แต่ต้องเรียนสมการล้านแปดแล้ว สุดท้ายเราก็เรียนไม่ทัน เพราะฉะนั้นเป็นเรื่องธรรมดามากๆ ที่เราจะเกิดอาการมึนงง กับเนื้อหาใหม่ๆ ที่ยากขึ้น

          ข้ามมาที่สายศิลป์ ก็ตกภาษาอังกฤษกันเป็นประจำ อย่างแรกเราต้องยอมรับว่า เราเรียนสายนี้ ภาษาอังกฤษและคณิตศาสตร์เป็นตัวชูโรง ดังนั้นสองวิชานี้เรียนหนักแน่นอน อย่างสายวิทย์อาจจะเรียนแค่ไวยากรณ์ตามหนังสือหลัก แต่สายศิลป์จะมีวิชาฟัง วิชาเขียน วิชาภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อการสื่อสาร ฯลฯ อีกมากมายที่สายวิทย์ไม่ได้เรียน เพราะฉะนั้นก็เข้าอีหรอบเดิมว่า ยิ่งเรียนลึกขึ้น สมองเราก็ตามไม่ทัน ดังนั้น ต่อให้เราเรียนสายไหนเราก็มักจะตกในวิชาสำคัญของสายนั้นนั่นเอง

         สรุปว่า ในแต่ละสายก็จะมีวิชาที่เน้นต่างกัน เมื่อเรียนเยอะ โอกาสตกจึงมีเยอะกว่า ส่วนวิชาที่ไม่เน้น ก็จะเรียนน้อย แถมง่าย จึงไม่ตกให้ปวดใจ         ดังนั้น อย่าปล่อยให้ปัญหานี้ลอยนวลค่ะ!!

         อย่างแรกเลย ก่อนตัดสินใจว่าจะเรียนสายไหน นอกจากจะต้องดูว่าจบมาเราอยากทำอะไรแล้ว ต้องหาข้อมูลด้วย เพราะเราจะต้องอยู่กับมันไปอีก 3 ปีเลยนะคะ โดยอาจจะถามรุ่นพี่ก็ได้ว่าสายนี้จะต้องเรียนอะไร เน้นอะไรบ้าง โหดมั้ยฯลฯ เมื่อตัดสินใจได้แล้วว่าจะเรียนสายไหน ก็ต้องทำใจยอมรับกับสิ่งที่จะเกิดขึ้น เช่น เรียนสายศิลป์ จะต้องเจอวิชาอังกฤษ 6 คาบต่ออาทิตย์ เจอเลขทั้งเลขหลักเลขเสริม 5 คาบต่ออาทิตย์ ฯลฯ

         การรู้หน้าที่ตัวเอง เป็นการให้กำลังใจตัวเองได้อย่างดีเยี่ยม เพราะถ้ารู้ว่าอนาคตข้างหน้า เราจะเจออะไรบ้าง คนที่มีความพร้อมก็จะวางแผนแล้ว น้องๆ ม.4 -5 ตอนนี้ก็ยังทันนะ ลองดูว่าอีกหน่อยเราจะได้เรียนวิชาไร แล้วเตรียมตัวเจอได้เลย
         อันดับต่อมาต้องมีความพยายาม ยิ่งรู้ว่ายิ่งเรียนก็ยิ่งยาก "ความพยายาม" จึงเป็นเครื่องมือที่ดีที่สุด บทเรียนไหนที่เป็นพื้นฐาน ต้องรีบทำความเข้าใจ เพราะอีกหน่อยพื้นฐานตรงนี้จะต้องเอาไปใช้กับการเรียนอีกทุกเรื่อง เรียกว่าเข้าใจแต่แรก คุ้มทั้งปีทั้งชาติ ส่วนใครที่ไม่เข้าใจ ก็ต้องรีบถามเพื่อน ถามอาจารย์ ก่อนที่ทุกอย่างจะสายเกินไป

          บทความนี้พี่มิ้นท์เขียนขึ้นเพื่อสะท้อนปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้นจริงๆ ปัญหาที่ดูว่าแก้ยาก แต่ถ้าตั้งใจแก้จริงๆ โดยเริ่มต้นจากตัวเอง ก็สามารถแก้ได้ อย่าให้ความท้อ ความไม่เข้าใจ ทำให้ผลการเรียนเราแย่ และแอนตี้วิชาที่เราเรียนเลยนะคะ เพราะถ้าเรายิ่งแอนตี้วิชาพวกนี้เข้าไปอีก สิ่งที่ตามมาก็คือ ไม่ตั้งใจเรียนสุดท้ายก็สอบตกอีก เป็นวงเวียนไม่รู้จบ

         สอบตกตั้งแต่เทอมแรกยันเทอมสุดท้ายไม่เท่หรอกนะครับ :)

เสรีอาเซียน...เด็กไทยพร้อมหรือยัง?



         สถานการณ์การเปิดเสรีอาเซียนกำลังเป็นที่พูดถึงกันมาก โรงเรียนก็ให้การบ้านเรื่องอาเซียนกันหลายวิชา รัฐบาลทำโครงการพูดภาษาอังกฤษ 1 วัน พี่ๆ คอลัมนิสต์  ก็พูดถึงข่าวและความคืบหน้าของข่าวนี้กันโดยตลอด ไม่เว้นแม้พี่เกียรติเองก็เน้นย้ำน้องๆ ให้เตรียมตัวเตรียมพร้อมตนเองให้รับมือการเปลี่ยนแปลงนี้ ซึ่งไม่ว่าผลของการเปลี่ยนจะออกมาในทางบวกหรือลบแต่ถ้าตัวเรามีความสามารถ และพร้อมจะใช้ความสามารถของเราให้เกิดประโยชน์ต่อครอบครัว และสังคมได้อย่างดีที่สุด เราก็จะเป็นผู้อยู่รอดในยุคเสรีนี้

    พี่เกียรติคิดว่าน้องๆ  หลายๆ คนคงทราบเรื่องการเปิดเสรีอาเซียนนี้อยู่พอสมควรแล้วล่ะ แต่พี่เกียรติก็ไปพบรายงานหนึ่งที่บอกเล่าถึงเรื่องการรับรู้ของเยาวชนไทยเกี่ยวกับกรณีเสรีอาเซียนนี้ เป็นรายงานวิจัย เรื่อง ความรู้ความเข้าใจของนักเรียนระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนปลายเกี่ยวกับการเคลื่อนย้ายแรงงานเสรีในประชาคมอาเซียน ศึกษาเฉพาะกรณีนักเรียนมัธยมศึกษาตอนปลายในโรงเรียนเขตกรุงเทพมหานคร ซึ่งจัดทำโดยกองวิจัยตลาดแรงงาน กรมการจัดหางาน จากกลุ่มตัวอย่างนักเรียน จํานวน 736 คน พบว่า

     - นักเรียนส่วนใหญ่ ถึงร้อยละ 94.84 ไม่ทราบเรื่องการเคลื่อนย้ายแรงงานเสรีในประชาคมอาเซียน และมีเพียงร้อยละ 5.16 เท่านั้นที่ตอบว่าทราบ 

     - ในจำนวนคนที่ตอบว่าทราบเรื่องนี้รู้เรื่องรายละเอียดปีเริ่มต้นที่จะเปิดเสรีและเงื่อนไขอาชีพเพียงร้อยละ  0.54 เท่านั้น 

ซึ่งถือว่าน้อยมากเลยต่อการเตรียมตัวของน้องๆ เอง และแม้ตอนนี้พี่เกียรติจะเชื่อว่าน้องๆ ส่วนมากน่าจะพอรู้เรื่องนี้แล้วก็ตาม เพราะผลการวิจัยนี้ก็เมื่อช่วงปี 53โน้น แต่พี่เกียรติก็ยังหวังว่าคงไม่มีน้องๆ ที่ลืมตระหนักถึงอนาคตอันใกล้นี้นะ ไม่อยากให้น้องๆ อยู่ในจำนวนกว่าร้อยละ 90 ที่ไม่รู้เรื่องเสรีอาเซียนนี้นะคะ



ข้อมูลเบื้องต้นการเคลื่อนย้ายแรงงานเสรีอาเซียนอีกสักนิด!
       ทางประชาคมอาเซียนมีข้อตกลงร่วมกันที่จะให้มีการเคลื่อนย้ายแรงงานเสรีในปี พ.ศ. 2558  โดยในช่วงเริ่มต้นจะมีการเคลื่อนย้ายแรงงานเฉพาะกลุ่มที่มีฝีมือ 7 อาชีพแรก ซึ่งจะส่งผลกระทบต่อตลาดแรงงานของไทยท้ังในด้านที่เป็นประโยชน์ คือ แรงงานในกลุ่มนี้มีโอกาสเลือกทํางานในสถานที่ที่แสดงศักยภาพสูงสุด และมีรายได้ที่สูงขึ้น   แต่การเคลื่อนย้ายแรงงานดังกล่าว ก็มีข้อเสียควบคู่กัน คือ แรงงานในประเทศไดรับผลกระทบจากการไหลเข้ามาของแรงงานจากประเทศอันทำให้ มีการแข่งขันกันมากขึ้น ในขณะที่แรงงานของไทยที่มีความรู้ ความสามารถ ก็จะไปทำงานในประเทศอื่นเช่นกัน ซึ่งจะทำให้เกิดสภาพ “สมองไหล” - ข้อมูลจากรายงานผลการวิจัยตลาดแรงงานปี 2552 - 2553 หน้า 152 โดย กรมจัดหาแรงงาน

       คนไทยเก่งๆ ก็จะไปประเทศอื่น คนเก่งไม่มากของเราเองก็อาจจะถูกแย่งงาน แบบนี้ชักน่ากลัวอยู่ไม่หยอกนะคะ ดังน้ัน น้องๆ  ทั้งหลายที่กำลังจะเลือกเรียนต่อที่ใด ใกล้จะจบจากที่ไหน สาขาใดก็ตาม จะเคลื่อนย้ายไปตามเสรีอาเซียนนี้หรือไม่ ก็จะต้องได้รับผลกระทบจากการเปลี่ยนแปลงนี้แน่นอนในทางใดทางหนึ่ง  จึงควรศึกษาความรู้เกี่ยวกับการเคลื่อนย้ายแรงงานเสรีในประชาคมอาเซียน ฝึกฝีมือในทักษะอาชีพที่ศึกษา และมีความพร้อมทางภาษาและการสื่อสารค่ะ ทั้งนี้ก็เพื่อให้มีความพร้อมในการเข้าสู่ตลาดแรงงานในอนาคตไม่ว่าจะเป็นตลาดงานของไทยเอง ของอาเซียน หรือต่างประเทศใดๆ ก็ตามค่ะ 
        อย่าลืมว่าเราเคลื่อนย้ายไปที่อื่นได้ คนอื่นก็เคลื่อนย้ายมาบ้านเราได้นะ งานใคร หรือใครจะถูกแย่งงานหรือไม่ และไม่ว่าจะเกี่ยวกับ 7 อาชีพแรกหรือไม่ก็ตาม ก็ต้องเตรียมตัวค่ะเด็กไทยอย่างเราๆ จะพร้อมหรือไม่ คำตอบรออีกไม่กี่ปีนี้แหละ!

The government's controversial "One Tablet PC Per Child" policy is being piloted in five schools despite a study suggesting it could have negative impacts on the recipients.


Woravat: Handed out 600 tablet PCs

The government had decided the device will be distributed as promised, regardless of the results of the study, said Amnuay Sunthornchot, head of the Khaniyom Pheu Srang (values for building the nation) Chat Club.

He opposes distribution of the device to Pathom 1 (Grade 1) students, as he believes the children will probably use it for entertainment purposes rather than to aid their studies.

Education Minister Woravat Au-apinyakul handed out 600 tablet PCs to about 500 Prathom 1 and 4 students in five pilot schools to study the potential impacts of the devices on pupils.

The five schools chosen for the pilot are Rachawinit School in Bangkok, Anuban Lampang School in Lampang, Anuban Phangnga School in Phangnga, Sanambin School in Khon Kaen and Srinakharinwirot University Prasarnmit Demonstration School in Bangkok.

Srinakharinwirot University has been conducting a study of the pilot scheme.

"The study has no benefit," Mr Amnuay said.

"If the study finds the project has a negative impact on students, what will the government do next?" he asked.

The government had said the project would go ahead anyway, so the study was a farce, he said, adding the pilot schools should have been selected from different environments so as to get an idea of the impacts across a cross-section of society, but all five pilot schools are located in urban areas.

Khaniyom Pheu Srang Chat Club also conducted a survey on the tablet policy, seeking the views of 407 parents, teachers, Chulalongkorn University students and pupils from Triam Udom Suksa School and Triam Udom Suksa Pattanakarn School in Bangkok and Benchamarat Rangsarit School in Chachoengsao.

It found that 94.1% disagreed with distributing tablet PCs to Prathom 1 pupils because of their very young age.

Surveying the students' computer-use behaviour, 74.9% of all computer time use was found to be for entertainment purposes and only 25.1% for learning.

"They mostly use a computer for visiting Facebook and playing the Angry Birds game," he said.

But Mr Woravat is insisting the project will go ahead, saying the first batch will be given out in the next academic year.

There are more than 800,000 Pathom 1 students across the country but the first batch of tablet devices will go to about 470,000 students.

Of them, 345,000 pupils are under the Office of Basic Education Commission and 125,000 belong to the Office of Private Education Commission.

Chanwit Tabsuphan, secretary-general of Opec, said that 125,394 out of a total 175,000 Pathom 1 students in private schools will be given the device in the next academic year.

              การท่องจำจากหนังสือ หรือเอกสารที่มีตัวหนังสือล้วน เชื่อมั้ยว่า เป็นการจำที่เปลืองสมองเรามากๆ เพราะมันไม่มีแรงดูงดูดที่ทำให้เราจดจำง่ายขึ้นเลย ดังนั้น วันนี้พี่มิ้นท์จะบอกวิธีเจ๋งๆ โดยการดึงเอาจินตนาการออกมาใช้ร่วมกับความจำ นั่นก็คือ การจำด้วยภาพนั่นเอง 

              การจำด้วยภาพ เป็นการจำที่ใช้จินตนาการผสมกับความรู้สึกนึกคิด ทำให้การจำแม่นยำขึ้น ต่อให้เป็นคนไม่มีจินตนาการแค่ไหน เทคนิคก็ยังใช้ได้ผล 100% ซึ่งเทคนิคนี้ก็คือ การแปลผลจากข้อความออกไปเป็นรูปภาพที่เกี่ยวข้องกับเนื้อหา ถ้าใครอินมาก อาจะใช้รูปภาพถ่ายทอดเป็นเรื่องราวเลยก็ได้
             เพื่อเป็นการยืนยันผล พี่มิ้นท์มีแบบทดสอบสนุกๆ ให้ทำค่ะ

         แบบทดสอบข้างต้น พี่มิ้นท์ลองแยก "รูปภาพ" และ "ตัวอักษร" ออกจากกัน น้องๆ พอจำความรู้สึกในการจำรูปทั้งสองได้มั้ยคะ ว่าภายในเวลา 3 วินาที สามารถจำรายละเอียดของรูปไหนได้มากกว่ากัน พี่มิ้นท์เชื่อว่าหลายคนมองผ่านรปในข้อ 1) แว๊บเดียวก็สามารถจำได้แล้วว่ามีอะไรบ้าง โดยไม่ต้องท่องด้วยซ้ำ ถึงเวลาเขียนแค่นึกความรู้สึกว่าอะไรวางอยู่ตรงไหน ก็สามารถจำได้แล้ว
         ส่วนข้อ 2) ก็จำได้เหมือนกัน แต่ต้องท่องทวนซ้ำอย่างน้อย 2-3 รอบ ถึงจะลงมือเขียนได้ แต่ข้อสรุปนี้ อาจจะง่ายเกินไป เพราะจำนวนสิ่งของมีน้อย ลองมาพิสูจน์อีกครั้งกับรูปภาพนี้

        ข้อ3) ให้เวลา 10 วินาที จำว่ามีอะไรบ้าง และเขียนออกมา

         จากรูปภาพข้างบนมีทั้งหมด 10 ข้อ จำได้เท่าไหร่กันบ้างเอ่ย?? ถ้าใครจำได้ถึง 10 ต้องปรบมือให้เลยล่ะ เพราะมันยากมากๆ เพราะภายในเวลา 10 วินาที เป็นเวลาช่วงสั้นมากๆ ที่จะจดจำสิ่งของที่มีถึง 10 ชิ้น ดังนั้นถ้าเติมไม่ครบก็ไม่ต้องเสียใจไปนะ ส่วนใหญ่อาจจะจำกันได้ 5-6 ข้อ 
         น้องๆ ลองสังเกตคำตอบของตัวเองดูว่า ส่วนใหญ่สิ่งที่จำได้ คือ อะไร เป็นรูปภาพ? หรือ ตัวอักษร?
        คำตอบที่ออกมา น้องๆ น่าจะเลือกจำรูปภาพมากกว่าตัวอักษร เนื่องจากจำง่าย มีรูปลักษณ์ชัดเจน แล้วก็โยงกับความคิดเราได้ ทำให้นึกภาพเร็วขึ้น ส่วนการจำแห้งๆ ที่มีแค่คำ คนจึงเลือกจำน้อย เพราะได้ผลที่ต่ำกว่า
        มาถึงตรงนี้ น้องๆ น่าจะเข้าใจหลักการจำด้วยภาพมากขึ้น สรุปง่ายๆ ก็คือ สมองคนเราจะเรียนรู้จากการจำด้วยภาพได้ง่ายกว่า เป็นการใช้สมองซีกขวา ซึ่งเป็นเทคนิคที่ได้ผลจริงๆ สามารถนำไปประยุกต์ใช้ในการจดโน้ต หรือสรุปเนื้อหาก่อนสอบ ใช้รูปภาพแทนบางส่วนคำพูด จะช่วยให้จำได้ง่ายขึ้นมากๆ ถึงเวลาสอบก็แค่ระลึกชาตินิดหน่อย ก็สามารถแปลผลออกมาเป็นตัวอักษรได้เหมือนเดิมแล้วค่ะ
       ตัวอย่างสุดท้าย น้องๆ ลองนึกภาพตามนะคะ
 ถ้าจะนึกชื่อประเทศในอาเซียน ก็ลองเปลี่ยนวิธีจากนั่งชื่อนับนิ้ว มาเป็นการมองภาพในความคิดให้ออกมาเป็นแผนที่โลก มีประเทศไทยเป็นศูนย์กลาง และประเทศรอบๆ เราเป็นสมาชิกอาเซียนทั้งหมด ตำแหน่งและรูปทรงของแต่ละประเทศที่เอามาต่อๆ กัน ทำให้เรานึกชื่อประเทศได้ง่ายขึ้น แค่นี้ก็จำชื่อประเทศในอาเซียนได้ครบแล้ว :)

ชีวิตอาจต้องผิดหวัง ถ้ายังไม่รู้จัก "คณะ" ให้ดี


      การค้นหาสิ่งที่ใช่ สิ่งที่ชอบในการเรียนต่อระดับใดๆ ก็ตาม โดยเฉพาะในระดับมหาวิทยาลัย เป็นเรื่องที่หลายๆ คนสับสน มีทั้งคนที่เลือกเรียนเพราะชอบ สนใจ ถูกบังคับให้เรียน จนถึงคะแนนถึงก็เอา! แต่ไม่ว่าจะตั้งใจเลือกด้วยเหตุผลใดก็ตาม ผลในอนาคตก็อาจไม่ได้สวยหรูเสมอไป เพราะฉะนั้นเราต้องเลือกให้ดีนะคะ

Christmas History




The word 'Christmas' comes from Cristes maesse, an English phrase that means Mass of Christ.

Christmas History - an overview

The history of Christmas dates back over 4000 years. Many of our Christmas traditions were celebrated centuries before the Christ child was born. The 12 days of Christmas, the bright fires, the yule log, the giving of gifts, carnivals (parades) with floats, carolers who sing while going from house to house, the holiday feasts, and the church processions can all be traced back to the early Mesopotamians.

Many of these traditions began with the Mesopotamian celebration of New Years. The Mesopotamians believed in many gods, and as their chief god - Marduk. Each year as winter arrived it was believed that Marduk would do battle with the monsters of chaos. To assist Marduk in his struggle the Mesopotamians held a festival for the New Year. This was Zagmuk, the New Year's festival that lasted for 12 days.

The Mesopotamian king would return to the temple of Marduk and swear his faithfulness to the god. The traditions called for the king to die at the end of the year and to return with Marduk to battle at his side.

To spare their king, the Mesopotamians used the idea of a "mock" king. A criminal was chosen and dressed in royal clothes. He was given all the respect and privileges of a real king. At the end of the celebration the "mock" king was stripped of the royal clothes and slain, sparing the life of the real king.

The Persians and the Babylonians celebrated a similar festival called the Sacaea. Part of that celebration included the exchanging of places, the slaves would become the masters and the masters were to obey.

Early Europeans believed in evil spirits, witches, ghosts and trolls. As the Winter Solstice approached, with its long cold nights and short days, many people feared the sun would not return. Special rituals and celebrations were held to welcome back the sun.

In Scandinavia during the winter months the sun would disappear for many days. After thirty-five days scouts would be sent to the mountain tops to look for the return of the sun. When the first light was seen the scouts would return with the good news. A great festival would be held, called the Yuletide, and a special feast would be served around a fire burning with the Yule log. Great bonfires would also be lit to celebrate the return of the sun. In some areas people would tie apples to branches of trees to remind themselves that spring and summer would return.

The ancient Greeks held a festival similar to that of the Zagmuk/Sacaea festivals to assist their god Kronos who would battle the god Zeus and his Titans.

The Roman's celebrated their god Saturn. Their festival was called Saturnalia which began the middle of December and ended January 1st. With cries of "Jo Saturnalia!" the celebration would include masquerades in the streets, big festive meals, visiting friends, and the exchange of good-luck gifts called Strenae (lucky fruits).

The Romans decked their halls with garlands of laurel and green trees lit with candles. Again the masters and slaves would exchange places.

"Jo Saturnalia!" was a fun and festive time for the Romans, but the Christians though it an abomination to honor the pagan god. The early Christians wanted to keep the birthday of their Christ child a solemn and religious holiday, not one of cheer and merriment as was the pagan Saturnalia.

But as Christianity spread they were alarmed by the continuing celebration of pagan customs and Saturnalia among their converts. At first the Church forbid this kind of celebration. But it was to no avail. Eventually it was decided that the celebration would be tamed and made into a celebration fit for the Christian Son of God.

Some legends claim that the Christian "Christmas" celebration was invented to compete against the pagan celebrations of December. The 25th was not only sacred to the Romans but also the Persians whose religion Mithraism was one of Christianity's main rivals at that time. The Church eventually was successful in taking the merriment, lights, and gifts from the Saturanilia festival and bringing them to the celebration of Christmas.

The exact day of the Christ child's birth has never been pinpointed. Traditions say that it has been celebrated since the year 98 AD. In 137 AD the Bishop of Rome ordered the birthday of the Christ Child celebrated as a solemn feast. In 350 AD another Bishop of Rome, Julius I, choose December 25th as the observance of Christmas.

In the late 300's, Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire. By 1100, Christmas had become the most important religious festival in Europe, and Saint Nicholas was a symbol of gift giving in many European countries. During the 1400's and 1500's, many artists painted scenes of the Nativity, the birth of Jesus. An example of these works appears in the Jesus Christ article in the print version of The World Book Encyclopedia.

The popularity of Christmas grew until the Reformation, a religious movement of the 1500's. This movement gave birth to Protestantism. During the Reformation, many Christians began to consider Christmas a pagan celebration because it included nonreligious customs. During the 1600's, because of these feelings, Christmas was outlawed in England and in parts of the English colonies in America. The old customs of feasting and decorating, however, soon reappeared and blended with the more Christian aspects of the celebration.
